What we see in Commerce City homes

An older south end. Commerce City incorporated in 1952 as Commerce Town, taking in neighborhoods such as Rose Hill and part of Adams City, and later annexed part of Derby. Homes there tend to be older, with furnaces and ducts that have been patched and replaced over the decades. We test what's there before recommending anything.

Newer neighborhoods up north. The northern part of the city, including Reunion, is much newer construction, mostly with high-efficiency furnaces venting through PVC pipe and draining condensate through a small line. A clogged drain line can shut the furnace off; water around the base of the furnace is the clue.

Industry, rail, and open prairie. Commerce City has had a refinery since 1930, rail lines run through it, and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge opens the east side to prairie wind. Dust loads up furnace filters and outdoor AC coils faster here, so check the filter monthly and keep the area around the outdoor unit clear. The city sits around 5,200 feet, a little below downtown Denver.

Common questions

Do you serve both the older and newer parts of Commerce City?

Yes — from Derby and Adams City in the south to Reunion and the newer neighborhoods up north. Send your zip with the request so we can confirm a window.

How often should I change my furnace filter?

Swap every 1–3 months, and check it monthly if there's construction, heavy traffic, or open land near you. Measure the one that's in there before you buy a new one.

The outdoor AC unit is caked with dust. Can I clean it myself?

Turn the power off at the disconnect first. You can rinse the outside of the coil gently with a garden hose — no pressure washer. If you'd have to open the cabinet, that's our job.
